I’m headed to Nola next week so I decided to make some beignets. I added some chocolate chips and a few with habaneros. Yum, yum! Testing out another recipe format.
Chocolate And Chocolate & Habanero Beignets
-
Ingredients
- 4 c. Bread Flour, 1 c. for dusting
- 1 1/2 c. Buttermilk
- 3/4 c. Milk
- 1/2 c. Chocolate Chips
- 3 Tbsp. Sugar
- 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
- 1/4 tsp. Salt
- *1 Habanero 🙂
-
Instructions
- Microwave milk for about 45 seconds or warm in saucepan. It should be hot around 105-115 F. Transfer to a stand mixer and add buttermilk, sugar and yeast. Mix and allow yeast to bloom for 10 minutes.
- Add flour, salt and baking soda.
- Attach dough hook and mix on low till ingredients are fully incorporated. Increase speed to medium and mix for 5 minutes.
- Flour work surface and remove dough from bowl. Form a ball and roll dough out to 1/4″ thick. Allow the dough to rest for 10 minutes. Be sure to make sure that the surface has plenty of flour. Dough is very sticky.
- Use a knife or pizza cutter into desired size. I cut rectangles about 1 1/2″ x 2″. Place 5-10 chips at the lower end of the cut dough. Roll over so that chocolate is at the center and you have a pillow. Pinch the two open ends and set aside. Continue with remaining pieces. *I like adding slices of habanero with the chocolate for an extra kick.
- Heat fryer to 375F. Fry each side for about a minute each or to desired color.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve.
